In the aftermath of the devastating 2018 Camp Fire, children in Paradise, California, faced trauma, displacement, and overwhelming stress. Mindful Littles responded by turning compassion into action—mobilizing 1,800 Bay Area elementary students to support their peers through mindful service.
Mindfulness In Action
In partnership with Orinda Union School District, we launched a multi-day Mindful Service Learning project, where students created Peace & Wellness Kits for children affected by the disaster. But these kits were more than just care packages—they were tools for mental health and healing.
Students learned simple, age-appropriate mindfulness practices—the same ones included in each kit—to manage stress, build resilience, and practice empathy. They also wrote personal, uplifting notes to include in every kit, fostering a deep, heart-centered connection with the children they were supporting.
Real Impact, Lasting Change
In April 2019, we delivered 300 Peace & Wellness Kits to students in Paradise, along with in-class lessons on mindfulness. The response was immediate and profound. District leaders invited Mindful Littles to bring wellness programming to every elementary classroom the following school year.
When the pandemic hit, our commitment deepened. With support from volunteers and corporate partners like Starbucks, we distributed an additional 2,000 kits during the 2020–2021 school years—providing students and families with vital tools to manage anxiety and uncertainty during a time of historic stress.
“Mindful Littles provided a critical source of support in the aftermath of the Camp Fire. Their steadfast presence helped our staff and students navigate an immensely challenging time. I highly recommend the Mindful Littles program for any school community impacted by crisis.”

Sustainable Mental Health Support
Today, Mindful Littles remains deeply embedded in the Butte County community. Students continue to engage in classroom-based Mindful Service Learning projects and service field trips. Through our Teacher Coaching programs, educators are trained to integrate mindfulness into daily routines—ensuring a sustainable, school-wide culture of emotional well-being.
What began as an act of compassion has become a resilient, community-wide movement—strengthening mental health, empathy, and connection for the next generation.
