Mindful Service Learning

Helping children feel good, while doing good

What is Mindful Service Learning?

Mindful Service Learning is our proprietary educational curriculum that amplifies the powerful benefits of service by helping children feel good and do good for themselves and their communities.

What are the benefits of Mindful Service Learning?

Our feel good-do good approach provides positive relational experiences for students including “caring, warm, and nurturing relationships with friends and a sense of belonging in school”, which directly offset adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

Further, research shows that by activating students’ sense of purpose and service leadership, we increase academic performance, student confidence and self-esteem.

Finally, “generosity has been shown to soothe the nervous system.” Combining that with integrated mindfulness and self-compassion habits, our program strengthens student well-being and health.

What age are our programs for?

Research shows the earlier kids can build a foundation of healthy habits, the stronger their lifelong health outcomes.   Our programs primarily target elementary age students.  We also coach teen leaders and grownups to be guides for the younger generations, providing a full service suite for all ages.

How do we integrate Mindful Service Learning into schools for long-term, sustainable success?

Mindful Littles is committed to easy and seamless integration into school culture in the long term. We do this with a professional development approach that trains educators and other school leaders according to the specific needs and goals of their school.

"The Mindful Littles program provides individual calming approaches for the students as well as a sense of being part of the larger community."

"Mindful Littles empowers youth to discover themselves from within and to take pride in the treasured person each of us is. Learning to be self-compassionate from a young age should not be an added bonus curriculum in schools… it needs to be at the top of all of our priorities because every child deserves to discover the gift of self-worth. The consequential beneficial return into society will then be exponential — children who learn to genuinely love and respect themselves from an early age want the same for others and will spread compassion in the deepest ways."

“We have never experienced "service" done in such a thoughtful, learning-oriented, way.”
— Parent participant, Moraga School District family service event
"It was very special that we could connect as a family by doing something beneficial and kind for others. At the end [of the event] our kids were relaxed and happy, and as a family we felt heart-warmed and grateful. That is the power of practicing kindness for others.”
— Bay Area parent participant, Mindful Service Learning
"I learned that in life you have ups and you have downs. I learned something...that is not easy to learn. I learned how much one person can change a whole community."
