Workplace Families Make Youth Patient Care Kits

Halloween is usually all about the costumes and the candy, but at our Family Service event at Simpson Strong-Tie, employee families delivered a little extra sweetness to local youth patients.

Mindful Littles facilitated an afternoon Sensory Craft & Care Kit assembly experience for more than 70 parents, caregivers, and children to benefit UCSF-Benioff Children’s Hospital just in time for Halloween. Participants learned about what it means for children to be in the hospital for long periods of time and how supporting their well-being makes a big difference.

After a bit of groovy Halloween movement and a special treasure hunt, we had princesses, football players, Mario, and even Spider-man helping assemble 100 Sensory Care Kits for youth patients and their siblings.

The Halloween themed kits each contained a mindful activity book, a special cuddly creature, putty, a pumpkin pipe cleaner craft, light-up friendship bracelets, and a squeezy star to help with anxiety. Our sensory kit activities are thoughtfully designed to soothe, comfort, and reduce negative feelings and worry.

The 100 kits were delivered to Children’s Hospital and given directly to children undergoing treatment.
