Martin Luther King Jr. Day is traditionally a day of service. Here are a few simple activities you and your family can do from home to support your community.
Decorate and deliver uplifting Kindness Rocks
Painting colorful, inspirational Kindness Rocks to deliver to neighbors is a creative way to show kindness. Add a personal postcard and watch the kindness spread!
Write and send Gratitude Cards
Expressing gratitude by writing a note of thanks is a wonderful way to put appreciation into action. Research shows that practicing gratitude makes us happier and the person receiving the note of thanks will probably be happy too! For a more in depth art activity, learn how to make a nature paintbrush to create one-of-a-kind cards.
Assemble and deliver Kindness Baskets
Creating Kindness Baskets to deliver to friends and neighbors is a thoughtful way to lift spirits and strengthen community connections. Yummy treats, flowers and a cheerful note make a simple, sweet gift, but you can include whatever you like.
Set up a Donation Collection Box
Nonprofits and schools often need donated items. Find out what’s needed, set out a collection box, then send out a note to friends and neighbors asking them to drop by and donate new or gently used items, depending on what’s requested. These might include diapers*, canned goods, hygiene items, books, art or school supplies, warm coats or blankets.
*Mindful Littles is hosting a Diaper Bundling event and we’d love donated diapers! We usually bundle thousands of diapers at these events so the more diapers the better. Contact us for more information about where to drop collected diapers.
